Let’s talk about tea. This happens to be one of my all-time favorite topics. I enjoy more than my fair share of tea each day, and I believe that there is so much more to it than just a hot, caffeinated beverage.
The tradition of tea time has long been a way for people to come together, discuss, get to know one another. Traditional tea time is a little stuffy, I admit, but I like the idea of it. Anything that brings people together in a warm, welcoming type of environment is lovely in my book. Each week, here on this blog, I’d like to have tea with you. Metaphorically, of course. The past couple weeks I’ve posted “thoughts on a thursday” and I’d like to twist that into something more. I don’t just want to share my thoughts, I want to spark a conversation, a discussion. I love to talk, but I love to hear others’ responses just as much.
This past weekend, I was thinking a lot about tea, and the experience I create for myself when I drink my weekend brew. Everyone has an activity that centers them, calms their mind, brings on moments of inspiration and quiets the world around them. Tea does that for me. Every chance I get, I set aside quiet mornings or afternoons to sit with a hot, bitter mug of black tea and enjoy whatever I want, whether it be a magazine, a book, or my favorite online reads. I have a journal nearby to write ideas and thoughts, I pin images that I find, I fold down page corners. Even if someone else is in the room with me, its my “me time”. No words, just time alone. And I wholeheartedly believe that without that cup of tea, it wouldn’t be the same. The tea facilitates it all, puts my mind in a new and better state.
We all have our mind-clearing, thought-inspiring moments. What is yours? And are you making time for it? I wake up earlier than I have to on weekdays just to have 20 minutes of this time before work. I cherish the quiet lazy weekends at home that I can really indulge. Make time for the thing that clears your mind and reminds you who you are.
