Last weekend was my company holiday party, which is always a good time. It’s the one time of year I get to dress up fancy and I like to take full advantage of that.
My plan was to wear my Brass A Line dress, but a few days before the party, Duchess chewed a hole in the side.
Talk about devastated. I’d never spent that much on a dress, and it was the perfect wear everywhere, do everything dress. I’d worn it walking around NYC with sneakers, with tights and boots for work, and was ready to add some pumps and a statement necklace to it for a night at the boss’s fancy house.
Unfortunately, for the first time ever, Duchess took an interest in our clothes. While I wasn’t looking, she pulled the tag out leaving a huge hole in the side, rendering it unwearable.
Fortunately, I have the nicest boyfriend ever, and he offered to help pay for a new dress. See, when I’d bought the A Line dress, I originally wanted the Pencil dress, but it was sold out in my size. So, I ordered the Pencil dress in two sizes, paid extra for express shipping and hoped for the best.
This of course, isn’t the type of impulse shopping I necessarily agree with. What I’d tried to do was wear what I had to the holiday party, without buying something new like I had before. Unfortunately, that didn’t quite work out, so bought something new, choosing something from an ethical brand I trust.
I got so many compliments on this outfit Saturday night, and it’s really so simple.
Black dress + statement necklace + black pumps.
It’s classic, stylish and a liiiittle bit sexy. The longer length and sleeves kept it a bit more modest and warm. A gold statement necklace kept it modern, while the pumps were simple and comfortable.
I’m so happy I didn’t run out to the closest store for something trendy that I’d wind up donating next December. Despite the rushed nature of this purchase, I was able to choose something that I’ll wear many times and will last a long time (so long as I keep it away from the pup 😉
What’s your plan for dressing for holiday parties? Do you have many to go to? Do you buy something new or repurpose what’s already in your closet? I’d love to hear!
