Hi friends! I felt like it was high time for a cozy winter outfit to make an appearance on this blog!
I bought this striped dress at Target about a month after we moved to Portland. Striped t-shirt dresses were making the internet rounds that summer, and I had to have one. I’m happy to say it’s still a staple piece in my wardrobe.
About 2 years ago, I decided to try it out in my winter wardrobe, and it works equally well in all seasons! It’s a liiiiittle bit see-through, so it is easier to wear it with tights underneath anyway. I started by styling it with boots and a cardigan over the top, but felt like sometimes it was just a little bit too…stripey?
I wanted to keep wearing it, but tone it down a bit. So one morning I put a cozy sweater (this one!) over the top. I love the look, and it makes my dress feel different, while still using what I already have (rather than buying a striped skirt).
Like a lot of winter outfits, it can feel a little slouchy and shapeless though, so I like to pair it with a pair of black heeled ankle boots to step up the look just a little bit, and add a structured element.
If it’s extra cold, like it has been here in Portland recently, I pop a beanie on top to really up the cozy factor in this winter outfit.
Also, Duchess alert! This pup is always so curious about what I’m doing when I set up the camera, and she always has to be near me. It usually goes: throw the ball (distraction!), pose, snap a photo, dog brings back ball, repeat. I like to call it multi-tasking ;)
I love being able to take pieces that most would expect could only be worn one season, and bring them into the next (like a few years ago when we all wore tights under our shorts in the winter?) What pieces from your summer wardrobes pull double-duty in your winter outfits?
