The Fourth of July has always been my favorite holiday. I mean, is there anything better than warm, sunny weather, barbecues and fireworks? Well, maybe to some folks, but not for me. Of course I love Christmas and all that it brings with it, but the Fourth just encompasses more of who I am, and hasn’t been quite as tainted by consumerism. Unless you’ve ever stepped into an Old Navy in June.
As a kid, the thing to do was head to Old Navy for a flag t-shirt. I mean, who doesn’t need a cheesy shirt that will be worn exactly once before finding its way into a donation bag months later? Right. Even beyond flag t-shirts, there’s a whole sector of fashion dedicated to flag apparel, most notably in my age group: flag bikinis. It seems as though in order to celebrate the holiday, our lovely fashion industry has convinced us that we require themed apparel. Friends, don’t buy into this. I think you can look plenty spirited with things that are already in your closet. No need to run out for a red, white and blue string bikini top or star-shaped sunglasses to enjoy your grilled hot dogs. Today I want to share with you three super-easy Fourth of July outfits that are probably already in your closet.
3 Easy Fourth Of July Outfits
Outfit #1: Stripes + Denim
We’ve talked about stripes and denim before. This is my year-round, go-to combo. Fortunately this easy pairing is also perfectly patriotic. Most of you probably already have a navy and white t-shirt hanging in your closet and a pair of denim cutoffs to pair up. In this case, I took a different route and paired a striped t-shirt dress with a denim vest. Toss on some white converse, or some other easy sneaks, and you’ve got a Fourth of July outfit that’s far from cheesy and leaves you with plenty of room for that BBQ baby.
Outfit #2: A Pop Of Red
If stripes aren’t your thing, stick to solids and throw in a pop of red. I’ve recently been loving tying on this Madewell bandana. It’s super soft and adds a little color to my mostly blue & white wardrobe. Pair a simple white t-shirt with denim or black shorts and some comfy sandals. No red scarf? A bracelet or even red lipstick will do just the trick!
Outfit #3: All Denim Everything
For one day only, let the Canadian Tuxedo, become the American Tuxedo ;) I don’t think there’s anything more American than denim. Holidays are the perfect time to test the waters in fashion, so if you’ve been hesitant to try head-to-toe denim, let the 4th be your day! The easiest way is to pair dark with light.
What are your Fourth of July plans? And what will you be wearing?
