Simple Home: Fireplace Mantel Decor Inspiration

One of the biggest challenges in decorating our living room is the fireplace mantel. Don’t get me wrong, I love having a fireplace, but it can be difficult to know how to style it. After painting it, I’ve been placing objects, taking away, and rearranging for months but haven’t quite struck a solution yet. I think, for me, simpler is better, but when in doubt, consult Pinterest.

Here’s some of my favorite styling solutions for a simple fireplace mantel…

Put a mirror on it…

Simple white fireplace with large gold framed mirror

A mirror has to be the easiest way to spruce up a fireplace mantel. Love this gold framed one, and the stacked logs in the fireplace. (Dustjacket)

white fireplace with plants and a mirror

If just a mirror feels a bit bare, adding plants is always a win. The simple addition of rocks and a candle add interest. (Also, if my fireplace wasn’t functional, I’d be all over the big white pillar candles placed inside!) (Freunde von Freunden)

rustic brick fireplace with reclaimed wood mantel and a mirror.

This home balances modern and rustic so, so well. I love how they embraced the dilapidated fireplace by adding a reclaimed wood mantel, a wood-framed mirror, and some simple accessories. (Home Adore)

The sofas might steal the show here, but that mirror is fabulous as well. It’s interesting shape makes a statement, but doesn’t compete with any of the other beautiful elements in the room. (Lonny)

Display your art…

One large black and white photo above the fireplace is a beautiful addition while keeping the overall feeling of the room calm and clean. (T Magazine)

Art doesn’t have to be a large print. A small print mixed in with pottery, plants and candles is pretty, and since the ceilings are low, doesn’t leave the space above feeling empty. (The Design Files)

Hang a TV…

If your fireplace has a surround this beautiful, who cares if there’s a tv hung above it? No one will even notice… (My Domaine)

Or keep it minimal…

The ship lap detailing going up to the ceiling definitely adds interest, but a mantel left mostly bare is still beautiful. Three perfectly balanced accessories looks just right in this minimal design. (Design*Sponge)

So, which is your favorite? Do you struggle with fireplace decor like me? Maybe I’m overthinking it…
